Vasant Panchami or Basant Panchami also known as Saraswati Puja is celebrated for the arrival of “King of all seasons” Spring. The festival is celebrated at the end of Magh month which is usually the end of January and the beginning of February. According to mythology Lord Brahma created the universe on this day.

In the eastern part of India, the festival is celebrated as Saraswati Puja, particularly in West Bengal and Bihar. However in north India, especially in Punjab, the festival is celebrated with kites, in Rajasthan, it is a tradition of wearing jasmine garland on this day. The Vasant Panchami also marks the start of preparation for Holika and Holi, which take place forty days later.
