National Fire Service Day: April 14th is observed as National Fire Service Day (also known as Martyr’s Day) every year in India to pay tribute to those brave firefighters who sacrificed their lives in responding to the call of duty. On this day in year 1944, firefighting personnel displayed exemplary courage and devotion to their duty as they fought the huge fire that had erupted following an explosion on a ship named SS Fort Stikine docked at Mumbai Port. Many fire fighters lost their lives during the incident.

This day is symbol of the discipline, courage and dedication of firefighters as their motto is "Serve to save lives and property". For 2022, theme for National Fire Service Day April 14, 2022 was "Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity"

Safety & Firefighting Services Department of GSFC Ltd organizes various Fire Safety programs during observance of “Fire Services Week’ from Apr 14-20, 2022 to create Fire Safety related awareness among employees, contractors, community including school / university students to prevent and manage fire and fire related emergencies to minimize losses from fires. GSFC Ltd management invites all plant personnel, residents of GSFC Township, FN School and GSFC University students/teachers as well as various advertising media personnel to make Fire Safety program more effective in ensuring practical demonstrations and campaign generates public impact.

This year also in view of public holidays and exam schedules during scheduled week, special training session on Basic Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention was organized on April 06, 2022 at FN School in collaboration with Safety & Firefighting Services Department of GSFC Ltd. Nearly 280 students and 30 teaching/non-teaching staff participated actively with great enthusiasm. Few photographs are attached herewith for reference and records.
