Fire and Safety training Session 2 November 2025

Fire Safety Preparedness Training at Fertilizer Nagar School

The Firefighting Services Department of GSFC Ltd. recently concluded a comprehensive fire safety workshop for Fertilizer Nagar School. The program empowered nearly 35 staff members and 850 students, including NCC cadets, with the skills necessary to manage fire emergencies effectively and without panic.

Core Training Highlights:

The Fire Triangle: Participants learned that fire requires three elements: Oxygen, Heat, and Fuel. Training emphasized "Good Housekeeping"—maintaining clean, organized workspaces and well-maintained machinery—as the primary method for preventing fire by separating heat from fuel.

Fire Classifications: The session detailed the specific extinguishers required for different fires:

Class A: Dry combustibles (wood, paper).

Class B: Flammable liquids (oils, grease).

Class C: Electrical fires (requiring non-conductive agents).

Class D: Combustible metals (magnesium, sodium).

The P.A.S.S. Technique: For small fires, the department taught the four-step method: Pull the pin; Aim at the base; Squeeze the handle; Sweep side-to-side.

Safety Protocol: Trainees were reminded to evacuate rather than fight a fire if they are untrained, if the fire spreads rapidly, or if their exit path is threatened.
