Fire and Safety Training
On March 6, 2026, the Firefighting Services Department of GSFC Ltd. held a training session at F N School. About 50 staff members and over 600 students, including NCC cadets, took part.
Why Fire Safety Is Important
- Every year, about 28,000 factories face fires, causing huge losses.
- Most fires happen because of human mistakes.
- Fires can be prevented by:
- Keeping places clean and organized
- Handling flammable materials carefully
- Knowing what to do if a fire starts
- Learning how to use fire extinguishers
What Causes Fire
A fire needs three things: oxygen, heat, and fuel.
- Fuel: paper, wood, oil, chemicals, flammable liquids
- Heat: electricity, cigarettes, welding sparks, friction
If we remove one of these, the fire cannot continue. Good housekeeping helps by keeping waste low, machines clean, and storage areas safe.
Types of Fire Extinguishers
- Class A: For paper, wood, plastics. Uses water.
- Class B: For oil, grease, paint, flammable liquids. Uses dry chemicals or carbon dioxide.
- Class C: For electrical fires. Uses non-conductive agents.
- Class D: For special metals like magnesium or sodium. Needs special extinguishers.
ABC extinguishers can handle Class A, B, and C fires.
How to Use a Fire Extinguisher – P.A.S.S.
- Pull the pin.
- Aim at the base of the fire.
- Squeeze the handle.
- Sweep side to side.
Use extinguishers only for small fires. Do not use them if:
- You are not trained.
- The fire is spreading quickly.
- The fire blocks your way out.
